Grand place but not exactly overwhelmed - lebua at State Tower Bangkok Reviews

lebua at State Tower Bangkok Reviews - Arriving at the reception we were ushered to the desk gave our names and passports and asked to have a seat. Shortly after the duty manager came to have chat, see what our plans were, then the concierge came to have chat see what our plans were and shortly after another concierge came began to talk about the hotel and the room we had booked. She offered us an upgrade higher up in the hotel for a small charge, we took it. All the staff were friendly and attentive to make sure our initial impression was excellent, they did this well.

The Room
So it took our breath away, had a sitting room, small galley kitchen with big fridge, coffee machine, large bathroom leading onto a massive bedroom, huge bed and onto the balcony for some breath taking views. The room/suite is beautiful and well presented but then we caught our breath, we realised that most of the english speaking channels on TV didn't work properly and there were holes in the bed sheets. Once we spoke to reception and house keeping this was all sorted, until the channels went fuzzy again. We were eventually moved to another suite higher up, but unfortunately this smelt of cigarette smoke, but as soon as the air con was switched on this soon went. Overall the room was comfy and nice to spend time in out of the sun. Housekeeping were quick and friendly and happy to help. Getting to and from your room can be a challenge as the lift/elevator can be used mostly for those going up and down to the Sky Bar so more often than not we had to wait some time before going up and coming down.

The Food
We only had breakfast, but what a breakfast, so much choice i was lost just wandering round trying to decide what to have, you are definitely spoilt for choice. Food from all over the world from Dim Sum and Sushi to a roasted joint to pancakes and waffels and my favourite eggs benedict with the yolk still a bit runny. There is always fresh coffee or tea for the table and the staff are quick and efficient, plates are taken away almost as soon as your finished with them. And then is was back for more food and then more and then more. Yes breakfast is good and we stayed five days and wouldn't have tried everything. Only down point, i found a hair in part of my salad, but the manager was over straight away to apologise and chatted ages with us.

Sky Bar
We tried to go up just for a look but were turned away as we weren't dressed appropriately, so be warned you need to be wearing trousers and shoes, no shorts sandals or flip flops. We got turned away and we were guests at the hotel. It was only after our visit to the bar that they actually put a sign in the lobby about the dress code.

Location is great, close enough to the Skytrain and other trains, another benefit is it's close to the river to be able to get a boat up to the Grand Palace which i would recommend. Wait for the main ferry though as it's only 30 baht each when you get on the boat, it will take you all the way there. You will try to be sold a long tail boat, but just wait a bit longer for the ferry, it is used by monks and locals and very efficient. Avoid the Tuk Tuks and taxi's sitting outside, either ask the door man for a taxi to come round or just walk across the road, stop one with a light on in the windscreen chat to him through the window but ask for it to be on the meter, it should start at 35 baht. Don't get taken in by people offering you cheap deals, we paid 200 baht for a Tuk Tuk one night when we couldn't find a taxi, when the cost with a taxi was normally around 75 baht.

The overall experience of the hotel was really nice, staff were friendly and helpful and willing to help. Would we stay there again, most definitely staff and the breakfast is worth it. lebua at State Tower Bangkok Reviews
